Juan Sanmiguel

August 12, 1949 — January 7, 2021

Odessa

Juan Jose San Miguel Juan Jose San Miguel was called home on January 7, 2021. With his beloved children at his side he courageously awaited the reunion with his dear wife and youngest son. During the summer of 1949 on August 12th, Juan Jose San Miguel was born in Agualeguas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Dominga Salinas and Antonio San Miguel. As a young boy, Juan discovered his igniting passion for music. With great ambition, Juan sold bread in order to save up for his very first guitar. With his guitar in hand and family standing beside him, he performed for the first time at only seven years of age. Knowing that his calling in life was to play music, he continued to perform at Agualeguas Hall. His love for music came straight from his heart, “He had such a gift,” as his family would say. Shortly after his eleventh birthday, Mr. and Mrs. San Miguel made the decision to move to California for what would be the kick start of a dream come true. Re-connecting with family members meanwhile starting a band in 1963, Juan’s passion for music and dream of being a musician were unfolding before him. Seven short years later, the San Miguel family was once again moving across the states to Chicago. Along with family, Juan formed a group by the name of “Los Ritimicos de Juan San Miguel” where family, love, and music built the foundation. As they performed and recorded their first #1 record, the group was unstoppable. Along with his band and their profound success, Chicago brought Juan a treasure he never saw coming by the name of, Irma Saldana. By fate, Irma and Juan met for the first time at the Chevy Chase. Singing and playing his way into her heart, Juan had met his soul mate. As their love for each other deepened, the two were admiringly married in 1970 at the civil courts in Chicago. Building a life they loved and raising four children together was Juan’s true dream come true. As he played with his band singing on stage while his wife rooted for him and his children dance in the crowd, he knew what love really meant. Juan made the brave decision to move his family to Odessa, Texas in 1984. As the San Miguel’s relationship with the Lord grew, they decided to take their vow to one another through the sacrament of marriage at St. Anthony’s Church. With sadness in their hearts, and a part of their family missing the San Miguel family laid their youngest son and brother to rest in December of 1996. Relying on his faith and the goodness of God, Juan took on playing in the church band every Sunday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. For 20+ years Juan lead the church in worship and served God. Juan Jose San Miguel is survived by three children, Sandy San Miguel and partner Martin Escobedo, Johnny San Miguel, and Freddie San Miguel and partner Monica Espudo; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Junior San Miguel and Billy San Miguel; and 2 sisters Norma Cervantes and Willie Reyna. He is preceded by his wife, Irma San Miguel; son, Paul San Miguel; and 2 brothers, Rolando San Miguel, and Nicolas San Miguel. A soul laid to rest, with a genuine love for all those around him, Juan will be greatly missed.
