Jesma Eugine Wiginton Gann

January 26, 1926 — April 16, 2023

Jesma Eugine Wiginton Gann, 97, of Midland, Texas, passed away on April 16, 2023 at her home in Midland County.

Arrangements are entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home of Odessa.

Jesma “Jet” was born on January 26, 1926 in Hamilton, Alabama to the late John T. Wiginton and Dora Vinnie Myhand Wiginton, the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter. She married the love of her life, Roland Aubrey Gann, on May 1, 1944 in Marion County, Alabama.  Jesma devoted many years to working at Medical Center Hospital in the Ladies Auxiliary Coffee Shop and then at Pojo’s until she retired at 81, with incredible pride in her long career.  Jesma was well known and loved by many customers through the restaurants she worked for.

There are no words that can truly express the profound impact Mom/Granny/GG had on our lives, but one thing we will always cherish is her sage advice. Jesma was a strong, independent woman who imparted her wisdom to all the girls in the family, teaching us not to rely on anyone but ourselves, always reminding us to consult her before making any major life decisions – because, in the end, she was always right.  As for her boys (sons), Mom entrusted their guidance to their Father, and for her grandsons, to their own fathers.

Jesma is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Roland; her daughter, Linda Gann Cox; her granddaughter, Jackie Cox; six sisters, Ruby W. Mason, Gertrude Wiginton, Geneva W. Walton, Exie W. Spicer, Jewell W. Dudley, Lucille W. Kerr; and three brothers Trellis J., William “Billy”, and James Wiginton.

She is survived by her sons, George (Debbie) and Charlie (Randi) Gann; her daughters, Beverley Leonard (Guy) and Lisa Salars (Ron); 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Midland. The family of Jesma wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Midland, our extended family, and everyone who provided love, support, and care to Jet during her time on this earth.
