Obituary

Catarino R. Rubio, 97 years, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Catarino was born in Ojinaga, Chih. Mexico on April 30, 1923 to Francisca Rodriguez and Paulino Rubio. He married Felix Sotelo on May 2, 1958 in Ojinaga, Chih. And widowed after 31 years of marriage. Together they had four children; Maria Del Rosario Rubio Gardea, Jose Rodolfo Rubio, Enrique Rubio and Catarino Rubio Jr., of these four children they had 18 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

Catarino lived a happy life besides his children. He loved to dance and sing his favorite song “La Puerta Negra” and in spite of it all his years and health, he never forgot the lyrics to his song. We will remember him as a strong man in every sense and he would have wanted all of us to remain strong as him. During difficult times he was never alone as he always had his family besides him, especially his grandson, Jose whom was his loyal companion in the good and bad times, whom was also his caregiver till his last breath. Catarino was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his charming, warm smile would light up any room he walked in. He leaves to cherish beautiful memories that though they might hurt to remember but we must keep in mind that he is now at rest.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2020 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Tony Franco officiating.  Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery in Rosehill Section.  Arrangements are entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home.
