Terry L. “Rabbit” McDade’s Life was cut short on July 5, 2025, in the very city where he was born and raised leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories. Born on May 29, 1965, to Johnny Mac McDade and Helen Doris Henderson, Rabbit grew up in Odessa and attended ECISD public schools.
Rabbit was a handyman. His spirit was as lively as his nickname, and his love for life was matched only by his deep affection for family and friends. Rabbit never met a stranger. He welcomed everyone he met with kindness regardless of their race or past. Rabbit had a heart big as Texas for the people he loved and cared about. He was also known for his wisdom advice and mutual respect.
Terry was a man of unique character and vibrant spirit. He had fondness for his hats, each one reflecting his personal style and personality. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He wore his team colors with pride and enthusiasm, bringing a sense of camaraderie to gatherings and family events. His love for sports and his infectious laughter resonated with everyone who knew him.
The beloved son of Johnny Mac McDade and Helen Doris Henderson, Terry was preceded in death by his parents who shaped the wonderful person he became. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Jack Johnson Henderson and Doris Lucille Henderson; uncles Joe Louis Robertson Sr., Thomas Earl Henderson Sr., Jack Johnson Henderson Jr.; and aunts Lois Faye Henderson, Susie Lee Henderson, and Johnny Janell Henderson.
Terry's life was a testament to the strength of family bonds and the importance of community. He is survived by his loving siblings Curtis Leon McDade, Helen Louise McDade and Todd Terrence Henderson of Odessa, TX. His legacy continues through his treasured nieces and nephews: Dominique “Balay” McDade, NaTasha Renee Smith (Cameron), Bianca La’Shay McDade, Yufus La’Brent McDade, Destiny Re’Vae McDade, Bre’Asia D’Shay McDade, and Anthony D’Wayne McDade. He also leaves behind “special brothers” Tony Riveria of Austin, TX and Anthony McDowell of Odessa, TX, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Though Rabbit’s earthly journey has ended, his memory will forever echo in the laughter he shared, the lives he touched, and the love he freely gave. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
