Rubie Jean Cooper Miles

After a brief illness, Rubie Jean Cooper Miles, 78, of Odessa, left her earthly home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2025 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by her family. Rubie resided in Odessa.

Rubie was born on January 03, 1947 to Roland Johnson and Lula Mae (Green) in Waxahachie, Texas. She attended school in Waxahachie and in Big Spring Texas. She completed accounting certification courses at American Commercial college in Odessa. Before her illness she worked for Petrie’s Department Stores, and Catherine’s. She worked as a supervisor for each of these retail stores for a total of 25 years.

Throughout her life Rubie always gave God full credit for her accomplishments. Rubie came into the knowledge of God at the very early age of 4, and when she became an adult, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1999, Rubie fell ill and by God’s grace, she survived 3 brain aneurysms. After this almost catastrophic event, Rubie retired from Catherine’s. Even while recovering from the aneurysms, she worshipped the Lord. She worshipped and fellowshipped in Odessa and served and attended church until her health declined. Among the many positions she served in at church was a Sunday school teacher. She loved to study her bible, teach and talk about the Lord. Rubie was a true believer in the Lord and believed in things that are right, fair and true. Rubie was an amazing listener, a fantastic cook, intelligent beyond belief, always encouraging and thoughtful in her words and deeds. She was serious, funny, wise, giving and caring. She was always the one person you could call (any day or hour) and she would talk to you for hours, she could hold a captivating, hilarious conversation or a serious, informative conversation, all in one phone call. Every once in a while, she was the person to end the call first otherwise she would stay on the phone. She hated good-byes and would end calls by saying “holla”. Rubie Jean leaves a void that cannot be filled. What we will miss the most is, her love for her family, her faith in God,her contagious laugh, her wisdom and spirit. Rubie loved life and she was not afraid of death because she trusts the Lord’s promises and believes every word of the Bible.

Rubie was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Rubie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Reverend L.V Miles, brother’s: James Earl Johnson, Tommy Jewel (TJ)Johnson, and Marvin Carol Johnson, sister’s: Mary Louise Johnson, Virginia Ann Johnson, Lee Altus Garland and Edna Mae Brown.

Rubie Jean leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Jeanetta Murry of Odessa, Jennifer Cooper Eleby(Richard) of Odessa, Jonatha Stock (Robert)of Missouri,Bryace Jones, James Boobie Miles, sister’s Vernie Lou Gossett of Temple, TX and Larette Johnson-Harris (Darron Harris) of Pflugerville, TX, one brother Robert Earl Johnson of Austin, TX, special nephew Jackie Johnson, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grand-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
