Celebrating the Life of Robert Lee Edwards

Robert Lee Edwards, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was a native of Odessa, Texas, born to the late Floyd Edwards and Olivia Arrington Edwards. Robert was a man whose life was marked by faith, family, laughter, and a heart full of love for those around him. His presence brought joy, his humor brought smiles, and his love for family created memories that will forever be treasured.

Robert received his education through the Ector County Independent School District, graduating from Permian High School in 1989. During his high school years, he was a proud member of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), an experience that became part of his journey into adulthood. Following graduation, Robert ventured beyond his West Texas roots and relocated to Detroit, Michigan. However, the love of family and the familiar comforts of home remained close to his heart. Drawn by those cherished connections and his deep affection for his hometown, Robert eventually returned to Odessa, the place where his roots were planted and where he would continue building his life and legacy.

Throughout his life, Robert demonstrated a strong work ethic and a steadfast commitment to providing for his family. Over the years, he held various positions of employment, including at the Holiday Inn, Buena Vida Nursing Home, and Sienna Nursing Home. Regardless of where he worked or the changes that came along life's journey, Robert remained dedicated to doing his part to support and care for those he loved. He understood the importance of responsibility and worked faithfully to provide for his family until his declining health made it difficult for him to continue. His willingness to work, persevere, and place his family's needs before his own reflected the love and devotion that defined his life.

Robert leaves to cherish his precious memory of his loving wife, Hazel Green Edwards; his sons, Christopher Edwards and Stephon Edwards (Aliza Edwards); and his stepson, Telvin Green. He also leaves his siblings, Travis Arrington, Sr. (Arlington, Texas), Teresa Edwards (Arlington, Texas), and Sondra Edwards Whiteside (Odessa, Texas). His legacy of love continues through his grandchildren, Cerriyah Edwards, Gracelynn Edwards, Khais Green, and Jayvian Green; his step-grandson, Elijah (Jonte) McDavid; and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Though his parents preceded him in death, the love they instilled in him continues through the lives he touched.

Robert had a personality that could light up a room and a sense of humor that remained with him even during his most difficult days. He loved to joke, make people laugh, and bring joy to others, even when he himself was experiencing pain. His smile was a reflection of his resilient spirit, and his laughter was a gift he freely shared with everyone around him.

A passionate sports fan, Robert proudly supported the Texas Rangers in baseball, the San Antonio Spurs in basketball, and, above all, his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He especially enjoyed playing basketball with his children's classmates, creating moments of fun, fellowship, and lasting memories.

Above all, Robert was a man of faith. He dearly loved Rose of Sharon Baptist Church and remained devoted to his church family. Each Wednesday, he attended Bible study at the Odessa Southside Senior Citizen Center, where he loved listening to Reverend Charles Sims teach the Word of God. Robert's commitment to his faith was unwavering. Even when illness made everyday tasks difficult, he remained determined to attend church and Bible study for as long as he was able. His dedication was a testament to the depth of his faith and the strength of his spirit. He also held a special place in his heart for his beloved uncles, Rodger and Carlos, whose relationships he treasured.

Family was the center of Robert's world. Every morning, he made it a point to text his family to say good morning, share prayers, and send church songs to encourage and uplift their spirits. These simple but meaningful gestures were his way of reminding those he loved that they were always on his mind and forever in his heart. His love for his family was evident in the little things he did every day.

One of Robert's greatest joys was his granddaughter. Whenever he saw her, his eyes would light up, and the two would share laughter that reflected a special bond filled with tenderness and affection. Those moments will remain precious memories for his family, reminders of a love that words can never fully express.

Robert also found happiness in the kitchen, especially when baking his favorite dessert, peach cobbler. Through his cooking, his humor, his faith, and his daily acts of kindness, he created a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Though Robert's earthly journey has come to an end, the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the faith he demonstrated will never be forgotten. His family will forever cherish the memories of his morning messages, his jokes, his unwavering devotion to God, his passion for sports, and the countless ways he made life brighter for those around him.

Robert's life reminds us that love is often found in the simplest gestures, faith can sustain us through the hardest seasons, and a joyful spirit can leave an everlasting mark on the hearts of others.

Rest peacefully, Robert. Your love will remain, your laughter will be remembered, and your legacy will live on through every life you touched. You will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
