Mercedes (Mami Meche) Zubiate Benavidez, 83 years old, passed away peacefully Wednesday March 16, 2022 in Abilene, Texas. Mercedes was born on April 1, 1938, in Ojinaga Chihuahua, Mexico to her loving parents Domingo and Belen Ramirez Benavidez.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Abelardo Zubiate who passed away on August 26, 1993, and her son Abel Zubiate who passed away on January 11, 2022.
Mercedes is blessed with a large and loving family. She is a beloved wife of 34 years to the love of her life Abelardo (Papi Lalo) Zubiate. Together they raised 7 caring and loving children Rosie, Maria, Luis, Alfonso, Abel, Lisa, and Victor.
Mercedes’s family and friends will carry many many fond memories of her life here on earth because she touched so many lives. Not only was she devoted to God and her family, but she also enjoyed cooking and sharing her recipes. She had a passion for flowers and her parakeets. Mercedes will be truly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children; Rosie Tonche of Abilene, Maria Alvarez (Fidencio) of Abilene, Luis Zubiate (Mari) of Odessa, Alfonso Zubiate (Liz) of Odessa, (Norma Zubiate) of Houston, Elisa Chavez (Louie) of Midland, and Victor Zubiate of Houston.
‘Mami Meche’ also leaves to cherish her memory 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation is set for Sunday March 20, 2022, from 1pm-9pm at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Masks are requested as you enter the funeral home.
Funeral services are set for 1pm Monday March 21, 2022, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Jose Davila and Alonzo Padilla officiating. Masks are requested as you enter the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery ‘Rosehill section.’
We the Zubiate family wish to express our sincere appreciation for all the prayers, visits, and many other acts of kindness shown to us during our time of loss.
Pallbearers will be Jaime Zubiate, Luis Zubiate, Michael Jaquez, Jacob Chavez, Brandon Zubiate, and Sylvester Tonche.
