Mary Walker

Mary Agatha Walker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and warrior died peacefully June
15, 2018, at home in Odessa, Texas, with her family by her side. Her battle was with both breast
cancer and diabetes.
She was born in Yard, Texas, May 1, 1933, to Albert and Mary Walker, and
celebrated her 85th birthday on May 1. 2018. She received a Certificate of Recognition Cum
Laude in 1980 from Odessa College while working as the Daycare Supervisor at Phyllis
Wheatley Daycare Center. Mary retired from this position in 1998. She once said, " I wanted to
be a nurse. God had other plans for me. He wanted me to nurture children."
Mary, a soft-spoken woman with a sly sense of humor, loved sewing, the Dallas Cowboys,
tennis, golf, and music. She sang soprano in the St. James Missionary Baptist Church choir
where she attended for over fifty years. Her favorite bible passage was Psalm 23.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Mary Walker, a brother Lessie T. Walker, a
half-sister Queen Ester Brown, grandson Rayveion Mann, and granddaughter, Jasline Walker.

Mary is survived by her sister Katie Arnold (Odessa, TX); children Raymond Walker and wife
Glenda (Odessa), James Walker (Odessa), Loretta Diane Walker (Odessa), Chris Walker and wife
Lisa (Odessa), Vincent Walker and wife Earnestine (Spring, TX), Kimberly and husband Mark
Schiff (Odessa). Grandchildren Lamont Walker, Armond Walker, Erma Baker, Priscilla Mann,
RoTyvia Walker, Kouveion Walker, Diandria Robertson, Christopher Walker, Jamari Walker,
Jamarkus Schiff, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Texas Oncology, Nurses Unlimited, Carol Evans (Hospice), and Martinez Funeral Home.

A memorial will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Baptist Church, 2212
E. 11th Street, Odessa, Texas.
