Maria Elena Hernandez

June 11, 1946 — May 22, 2026

Maria Elena Hernández was born on June 11th, 1946, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua to Prudencio and Teodora Gómez and passed away peacefully Wednesday May 22nd, 2026, at her home. She was well known for her kindness, compassion, generosity, faith in God and love for her family. Her warm spirit left long lasting impacts on every soul she encountered and her devotion to God changed the lives of those around her, especially in her selfless acts during her church retreats, prayer meetings, Bible studies, and social gatherings. She spent the majority of her life building a home for her husband, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She had the voice of an angel with the heart of a lion. She was very protective of her family and those she loved, and she would stop at nothing to make sure everyone around her were taken care of. She was a helping hand, a listening ear, and always had a pot of beans on the stove ready for anyone who needed a meal. She always kept her affairs in order, was constantly prepared for everything to come, and devoted her entire life to serving the Lord.

Maria Elena enjoyed sitting on her front porch with her husband in the evenings and cooking out in the backyard with her kids and grandkids on the weekends. She cofounded a local church group named “Los Pequeños Hijos de Maria”, whose main goal was to organize church retreats and spread the word of the gospel to anyone who would listen. God gave her the gift of love in her heart and she was willing to share it with anyone she came across, regardless of who they were and where they’ve been.

She is preceded in death by her parents Prudenció & Teodora Gómez; her daughter Carmen Fuentes; her siblings Gonzalo Gómez, Juan Gomez, Delia Carrasco, Magdalena Ibarra, Patricio Gomez, Charlotta Gonzalez, Fermin Gomez, & Antonio Gomez.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar Hernandez; her daughters Alma, Elsa & (husband) Oscar, Maria, Virginia & (husband) Eppie, Terry, & Jessie; her son, Oscar & (wife) Laura; her siblings Elvira Madrid, Ofelia Granado, & Edmundo Gómez; along with many extended grandkids and great grandkids who will forever honor her memory.
