Maggie Pearl Hunter

May 17, 1921 — April 29, 2026

Odessa Texas

Maggie Pearl Redic was born on May 17, 1921.

She passed away on April 29, 2026. Maggie was born to Clarence and Ula Redic in Lott Texas. She was the fifth child of eleven children. At the age of nine the family moved to Anson, Texas. There in Anson she attended school three months out of the year and worked the remaining months. She worked pulling cotton with her father and siblings. At the young age of eleven she begins working in homes. Her parents instilled a strong work ethic in her and an even stronger faith in the Lord. She often cared for her baby sister Grace and baby brother Roosevelt. She has stated that Grace was “her baby” being that she was 14 years older than her. While attending school in Anson she met her future husband, Howard Hunter. They married on March 14, 1938. The Hunter’s ran a café in Anson. Maggie cooked all the food and kept the place spotless. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter relocated to Odessa, Texas in 1954. Mrs. Maggie Hunter transitioned back into working in homes as a caretaker and doing housework. The families she worked for became family to her. Many of the children of Burnett’s and other families say she was like a mother to them. Maggie and Howard raised four children of their own. One boy and three girls; Richard, Ina, Sue and their granddaughter Tamara. Maggie was an expert seamstress she often could look at a dress in a store window and replicate it without buying a pattern. Mrs. Hunter loved to cook. Her favorite pass time was cooking for the holidays. Every family member would marvel at how she was able to cook so much. Not only did she prepare the best fried chicken and chicken & dumplings from scratch but all the sides as well. Then she had a bake shop with several pies and cakes lining her shelf. Everyone felt special and loved because she had their favorite and it made her happy to make sure everyone had what they enjoyed. Her love language was food. She would often share batches of tea cakes with friends and family she loved, just because. Let’s not forget to mention fried apple pies, a favorite. The only thing that surpassed her love for cooking was her love for the Lord. She was a devoted Member of Mackey chapel United Methodist church. She was a soprano in the choir and participated in every event and function at the church. On Sunday mornings for years, you could see her driving the orange and yellow church bus picking up people of all ages for Sunday school and church service. She was a mainstay at the Food Panty at Mackey Chapel. She was a member of the Sunshine club, United Methodist Women Mission and loved to attend community events when she was healthy. She would often do small gestures for people without them asking, she would see a need and act. Her family can contest to her head strong and steadfast nature. She was very independent, always wanting to do for herself as much as she could. At 104 years she was still spunky and lively. She found it hard to rely on others. She did rely on the Lord her God, she would say " my faith means everything to me I know it is Christ my Lord and Savior who has brought me this far and through God's Grace I face every day knowing he will take care of me and see me through the next thing that comes my way." Beautiful in spirit, body and mind, Yes Mrs. Maggie Hunter, God has got you on the next part of your journey…. You are going home!
