Johnny Johnson Jr.

Johnny Edward Johnson,Jr. Known to many as the beloved “Professor Johnson”,  A retired Teacher, Professor, Devoted Dad, words greatest Granddad, the communities “Pawpaw”, Uncle Johnny, God Fearing man and resident of Odessa, TX, went home to see Jesus on August 9, 2020 at the age of 81 while at home with his loving family.

Johnny was born in Clay, Texas on June 8, 1939 to Johnny and Madie Johnson Sr. Johnny Jr. always understood the concept of hard work and providing. As a child he worked as a cotton picker so that he could provide for his family.  He served in the Military, after graduating from Prairie View University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics. The community was proud of him. He worked as an educator for several schools including Bethune High School in Crane TX, Blackshear High School in Odessa, TX, Odessa High School  of Odessa TX, and Odessa College of Odessa TX before retiring  from the school system after 38 years. Johnny simultaneously retired from Sears Roebuck in 2001 serving 25 yrs.  Johnny and Lois wed May 11, 1964.  They welcomed four children, Johnny Edward Johnson III, Randy Bernard Johnson, Tonya Kaye Johnson, and Brian Keith Johnson. Johnny and Lois also raised three additional children, Heidi Marie Jeffery, D’vorak Andre Powell, and Krystal Sue-Johnson Powell and a host of other children.

Johnny was a very Intellectual, compassionate, and patient man who especially loved and adored his family.  His hobbies included spending time with his family, playing the piano, watching and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and attending all sporting events that his grandchildren participated in. He immensely enjoyed challenges whether it be math problems or solving puzzles.  Mr. J was a problem-solver who accepted diversity and thrived.  He was a God-fearing man that loved the Lord and a humble servant.  During Sunday service, he served as a Deacon and played the piano.  He was a man of few words, but his power and his presence were felt when he entered a room.  He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Left to cherish his memory includes his wife, of 57 years, Lois Johnson, his brothers, his sisters, his children, and a host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other loving family members.  He is proceeded in death by His Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son and Daughter.

The Johnson family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all that have expressed any form of love to their family.

Home going service is scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Life Unlimited Church, 4224 E Loop 338, Odessa TX, 79761.
