John Powell Jr.

With great sadness we announce John Anderson “Big Book” Powell Jr passed away Wednesday December 21, 2022, in Odessa, Tx at the age of 76.

Big Book was born in San Bernardino, CA to John Anderson Powell Sr and Julia Peterson Powell on January 6, 1946.

He spent Majority of his life in Odessa, Tx. He attended Blackshear and went on to become a multifaceted entrepreneur and coach of multiple sports. He had great influence in the community.

John is described as a voicetress man, with a bold personality and contagious laugh. It is said that he had a great love for sports, music and had a unique sense of style.

John is preceded in death by his parents John Sr. and Julia, Sister Vivian, brother Arthur Sr, daughter Terry Jocetta “Jogal” Cooper and Sue Ann Brooks-Powell.

John is survived by a large family including his Sister A Rose Sheppard. His children. Gary Powell, Terry Powell, John “Moe '' Brooks, John Williams, Lejon WIlliams, Jonathan Sapp,

Book Powell, Jour’Ney Powell, and Calondra Morris. Loved ones Gladys, Tina, Ruthann. He had Many stepchildren,

Big Book also leaves to cherish his memory grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lil Book, Devin Perry, Peyton Powell, Gary T. Powell, Kourtney “Bam '' Powell and Ke’evan Majors.

Visitation is set for Thursday December 29, 2022, from 1:00PM-9:00PM at Martinez Funeral Home,

A Celebration of Johns Life is set for 1:00 PM Friday December 30, 2022, at Living Vision Ministries 525 S. Grandview Ave Odessa, TX 79763 with Reverend Darrem Willis and Pastor James Porter officiating. Memorials may be given to Martinez Funeral Home.

Cremation will follow later.
