Joan Morris

Joan Wynelle Morris, 69, of Odessa, Tx, passed away of Leukemia on Saturday Feb 19,2022, at Medical Center Hospital.

Joan was born on November 18,1952, in Bessemer, Al to Robert Ben Morris Sr. & Annie Elbert Mason. The family relocated to the West Texas area in the 60’s, eventually settling down in Odessa, Tx. She graduated a year early from Permian High school in 1970. She furthered her education at Odessa College, earning her Associates degree in Computer Science. She worked For Texas Instruments, Midland branch, from the mid 70’s till the early 90’s.

After leaving T.I, she went back to college earning a Bachelor of Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics, just one credit short of a double major. For fun in the 70’s to 90’s, she spent her spare time traveling with her parents & friends. One her most memorable moments in the late 90’s, was when She and her best friend Lyn Marr & late Cousin Brenda Mason got to see Tina Turner in concert in Las Vegas.

In January 1994 she began her career in education at Hood Jr. High School. In 1997 She moved schools, beginning her journey as faculty member of the Math department at Permian High School.  Where she would teach Algebra 2 and various other math courses for the remainder of her career.

Whether it was coming in early or staying late to tutor, listening to their issues & giving advice, or buying school clothes. She was always there for her students in her own caring & sassy way. Joan Retired from E.C.I.S.D in 2019 with 25 &1/2 years of service. She spent her retirement visiting her numerous relatives in Alabama, traveling with her best friend Mrs. Teri Richardson, taking care of her family, and spoiling her dogs.

She was a beloved Aunt, Educator, & dear friend. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert & Annie Morris & her sister Robbi Ann Morris. She is survived by her brother Robert “Bob” Morris Jr, of Monahans, Nephew & Practical Son: Mason R. Morris of Odessa, Tx. Nieces: Megan Morris. Jazmyne Morris, Jaclyn Morris-Guevara, D’stani Morris, Mikala Morris, & Krystal Schiwart-Wood, Nephew: Brian Schiwart. She is also survived by numerous cousins & many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm on Friday February 25, 2022  at Martinez funeral home chapel 1040 s Dixie Blvd. Odessa, Tx, 79761. Graveside services of Joan's cremains will held at Williams Cemetery, Columbiana, Al, at a later date.
