Jesus Mendez, of Edinburg, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 95.
Jesus was born on May 31, 1931, to Jesus and Josefa Mendez. He lived a long and meaningful life centered on faith, family, and the values he carried throughout his years. Those who knew him will remember his strength, wisdom, kindness, and the love he shared with those around him.
He married Maura Benina Moreno on February 16, 1950. Together they built a family that remained the pride and joy of his life. Jesus cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he helped guide and nurture. He was the first Hispanic on the McAdoo board of education and also served as Deputy Sheriff.
Jesus was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Josefa Mendez, wife Maura Mendez, sisters, Hela Torres, Lupe De La Rosa, Ramona Campos, and Frances Patterson, daughters Lillie Evans and Gloria Alvarado, son in law Raymond Bernal, grandsons Bobby Herrera and Christopher Mendez, and great-granddaughter Alice Bernal.
He is survived by his daughters Janie Mendez and Anna Duran and Son in law Robert Duran, sons Ray Mendez and wife Lupe Mendez, Daniel Mendez and wife Janie Mendez, and Martin Mendez, numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless relatives and friends who will deeply miss his presence, guidance, and love.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that his life was filled with love, faith, and family. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all those at Midland Memorial Hospital who provided care, support, prayers, and compassion during Jesus’s final days.

Visitation for Mr. Mendez, will be held Tuesday June 9, 2026 from 1pm to 9pm with a Rosary being recited at 7pm in The Inside Chapel of Martinez Funeral Home The Dixie Location
A celebration of Mass will be held at 2Pm June 10, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Onyekozuru officiating.
Interment to follow at Ector County Cemetery The Los Angeles Section.
