Jesus Barragan

December 7, 1951 — May 27, 2024

Jesus Barragan, also known as Rod, passed away on May 27, 2024. Rod took his last breath surrounded by his family. He went peacefully and was ready to meet our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Rod was born in Candelaria, Texas on December 7, 1951 to Ramon and Cristina Barragan. Rod grew up in many different areas but made Van Horn his home for many years. While living in Van Horn he met his soon to be wife, Maria,  while he was working as a cashier at Colter Grocery Store. Rod and Maria were married on September 30, 1972 and were happily married for over 51 years making Odessa their home for 45 of those years. Rod and Maria  had three children, Kenneth, Cristina and Kendrick. Rod also had another daughter, Yvonne.

Rod is survived by his wife Maria Barragan,  his oldest son Kenneth and his wife Brenda Barragan, daughter Cristina and her husband Joe Gonzalez, youngest son Kendrick and his wife Kallie Barragan. Rod is also survived by his grandchildren Liza Barragan, Gabriel Gonzalez, Kenneth Barragan, Alexis Gonzalez, Joseph Gonzalez, Brendon Barragan, Kimber Barragan, Levi Barragan and Wesson Barragan; brothers, Efrain Barragan and his wife Connie and Armando Barragan and his wife Maria. Rod is also survived by many sister in-laws, brother in-laws, nieces, nephews and a very large extended family, whom he loved with all his heart.

Rod is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Cristina Barragan; siblings Lucy Anaya, Paula Sanchez, Sylvia Jimenez, Adela Villarreal Ermila Escontrias, Lino Barragan, Luis Barragan, Ervey Barragan and Ramon Barragan Jr.

Rod was the life of the party and loved to dance and laugh. He often would play the guitar for his grandchildren at birthday parties. At family parties, he would create contests for his grandkids, nephews and nieces, promising to pay a dollar to the winner. He owes so many a dollar. He never met a stranger because he was loved and known by everyone. Rod was a very strong and proud man who never showed a sign of weakness. Up until the end he still loved to cater food for friends and family, put up his own Christmas lights, and was always updating something in his home. Rod owned various businesses in his lifetime. He was a very patriotic man, loved the Dallas Cowboys and collected eagles. Most of all he loved his family. He taught his children many lessons and was always there for them all. Maria was the love of his life and they did everything together from traveling, taking long walks and loved to sit outside and drink coffee or just watch the world go by.

He will be missed by everyone.
