James Buckner Montgomery, 79, Of Odessa, Texas went peacefully to the Lord on August 25, 2025.

He was an accomplished bull rider, race horse owner and trainer. A very accomplished farrier. He was born July 23, 1946 in Eagle Pass, TX. He was a strong man, a loving husband and father, the most wonderful uncle and a lifelong friend to all the people he knew.

He is preceded in death by his parents O.D. and Ena Montgomery, and sister, Dorothy English. He is survived by his wife Alicia Montgomery, daughter Jamye Montgomery, brother Tommy Montgomery, many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

He was the most loving, generous person, he loved his family, he loved his animals and took great care of them all. He gave his advice, wisdom and care to all he knew.

Visitation is set for Tuesday September 2, 2025, from 1pm -9pm with a rosary at 7 pm Martinez Funeral Home West 10137 W University Blvd. Odessa, TX. Mass is set for 10 am Wednesday September 3, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 2633 Conover St Odessa, with Father Angel Castro and Deacon Edward Gonzalez officiating.

Burial will follow at the Kemper Family cemetery alongside his family.
