Irene Maldonado Galvan, age 93, of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Martinez Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM that evening, also at the Martinez Funeral Home.
Funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 22, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Irene will be laid to rest at Ector County Cemetery, Odessa II Section. Arrangements are entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home.
Born on April 15, 1932, in El Tomaseno, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Irene was the beloved daughter of Felicita Torres and Cleofas Maldonado. She received her education in Harlingen, Texas, and later built a life rooted in love and resilience. On October 11, 1993, she married Juan Galvan in Odessa, Texas, and together they shared many years of devotion.
Throughout her life, Irene wore many hats—maid, migrant worker, housewife—but above all, she was a pillar of strength and grace. A devoted member of St. Martin Catholic Church, she found joy in gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. Her laughter at the casino and her warmth in the kitchen will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Felicita Torres and Cleofas Maldonado; her husband, Juan Galvan; Her two brothers and her sister; her son, Celestino Galvan; her grandsons, Guillermo and Manuel Rodriguez; and her great-grandson, Evander Mateo Sosa.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Francesca Rodriguez, Sylvester (Leticia) Galvan, Sylvia Galvan, Estella (Andrew) Arellano, Janie Galvan, Mary (Randy) Sosa, Josie Galvan, Linda Hernandez, and Juan Galvan.
Her memory will be cherished by 14 grandchildren: Sylvester Galvan, Yvonne Rodriguez, Ezekiel Galvan, ChristaElena Galvan, Benjamin Galvan, Gabriella Galvan, JuanSelso Sosa, Maryssa Sosa, Charissa Torres, Sergio Galvan, Isabella Sosa, Andrea Arellano, Joshua Rogers, and Santiago Sosa.
She also leaves behind 27 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring love and spirit: Aubrey & Conner Rodriguez, Sydney, Sloan & Sinclaire Rodriguez, Gabriella & Brianna Meza, Ignacio, Joseph, Annaliese, Lucia, Maria & Margaret Galvan, Blella Galvan, Luna & Orion Galvan, EvaMarie, Raela Sosa, Augustine & Avyian Carrasco, Adalynn, Abrielle & Baby Torres, Sebastian Galvan, Alani & Analia Zuniga, and Baby Galvan.
Pallbearers will be Sylvester, Ezekiel, Benjamin, and Sergio Galvan, along with JuanSelso and Santiago Sosa.
The family of Irene Galvan extends their deepest gratitude to Saul Palma and the compassionate staff at Odessa Regional Medical Center for their care and support.
Though Irene’s earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
