Hipolito Baltierrez, lovingly known as “Polin” to his family and “Hippy” to his friends and colleagues, passed away on October 5, 2026, at the age of 64, just eight days shy of his 65th birthday.
Born on October 13, 1961, in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico, Hipolito was a man of extraordinary talent, unwavering faith, boundless curiosity, and an adventurous spirit. He later made his home in Odessa, Texas, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, faith, and countless unforgettable memories.
To know Hippy was to know someone who refused to live an ordinary life. He believed that life was meant to be experienced, not merely survived. Whether he was exploring the mountains, playing guitar, sketching, studying something new, or spending hours on the golf course, he approached life with passion and determination.
A man of many talents, Hipolito accomplished more in his lifetime than most could imagine. Throughout his journey, he served as a YMCA director, owned businesses creating architectural blueprints and logos, and operated his own martial arts school. He competed in cycling and earned medals, studied and graduated as a laboratory technologist specializing in parasitology, and dedicated many years to working in the medical field.
His love of learning was matched by his dedication to sharing knowledge with others. He graduated from ministry school, traveled to lead seminars, and shared his musical gifts as part of a worship band. He also helped establish a local chess club alongside a physician and organized numerous tournaments.
One of his greatest passions was golf. A talented and competitive golfer, Hippy participated in tournaments and found a second home at Ratliff Ranch Golf Links in Odessa. He dreamed of one day opening a golf school where he could pass along his knowledge and love for the game to others.
But his interests extended far beyond sports. Hippy was a gifted artist who loved drawing and sketching, a guitarist who appreciated both worship music and classic rock, and a writer with a deep love for poetry. He even wrote several poetry books that remained unpublished. He enjoyed action and science fiction films, especially Star Trek, and never missed an opportunity to introduce someone to his favorite music or movies, often accompanied by an enthusiastic history lesson.
Hippy was also known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling dad jokes, making funny accents, and finding reasons to laugh. He could be goofy and playful one moment and serious and determined the next. When he set his mind to something, he gave it his all. He believed that with dedication, courage, and perseverance, there was very little a person could not accomplish.
Above all, Hipolito was a devoted husband and father.
He shared 36 years of marriage with his wife, Maria America Baltierrez, and was the proud father of four daughters: America, Babe, Deborah, and Sharon. His daughters were his world, and he encouraged each of them to be bold, independent, adventurous, and unapologetically themselves. He affectionately called them his “Panchas.”
He was the kind of father who carried a camera everywhere, determined to capture every moment of his daughters’ childhoods. Years later, he would proudly play those home videos for anyone who visited. He filled their lives with music, laughter, adventures, and lessons they would carry forever.
Some of their most cherished memories are of long drives through the mountains, with classic rock or worship music playing as the family traveled together. When his daughters were sad, he would sometimes enter their rooms with his guitar and play for them, offering comfort through music when words were not enough.
He taught them how to read a map, how to explore the world, how to dream without limits, and how to embrace the unexpected. He taught them to reach for the stars, to laugh freely, and never to let fear keep them from living fully.
Family was never limited to those who shared his last name. Hippy had a special gift for making everyone feel like they belonged. He lovingly welcomed his wife’s nieces and nephews into his life and helped create a childhood filled with laughter, adventures, movie nights, and memories they would cherish forever. He loved being surrounded by family, sharing stories, watching movies, and spending time with all he cherished. Known affectionately as the favorite tío to many, he built lasting bonds through his kindness, humor, and genuine interest in the lives of those he loved. To them, he was more than an uncle. He was a mentor, an encourager, an adventure companion, and a constant source of joy.
Most importantly, he taught them to trust in God.
Hipolito was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and had a particular love for the prophetic books of the Bible. He enjoyed studying Scripture and sharing his understanding of God’s promises. He often spoke with his daughters about the hope of eternity and the day they would be reunited with Jesus.
His faith shaped the way he viewed both life and death. He taught his family that this world was not their final home, that to die in Christ is gain, and that when their own strength failed, they could always lean on the strength of God.
Hipolito is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Maria America Baltierrez; his four daughters, America B. Baltierrez, Babe S. Baltierrez, Deborah A. Baltierrez, and Sharon J. Baltierrez; Joseph Romo, whom he loved and regarded as a son; his mother, Beatriz Brady; and his siblings, Maria del Jesús Baltierrez, Estella Baltierrez, Hector Baltierrez, Elia Baltierrez, and Omar Baltierrez.
He was preceded in death by his father, Apolonio Baltierrez, and his brother, Jorge Baltierrez.
Although his family wishes they could have had more time with him, the legacy he leaves behind cannot be measured in years. It lives in the courage of his daughters, in their love of adventure, in the music they listen to, in the laughter they share, and in the faith that continues to carry them forward.
Hippy taught his family that life was meant to be lived boldly. That the world was meant to be explored. That music sounds better with the windows down and mountains in the distance. That it’s okay to be a little wild, a little weird, and completely yourself.
And above all, he taught them that death is not the end.
His family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, trusting that one day, by the grace of God, they will see him again.
His life was an adventure. His faith was his foundation. His family was his greatest treasure. And his legacy will live on forever.
