Felipe N. Davila, 71 of Odessa, Texas, passed away on August 15, 2018 in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday August 18th and 19th from 1:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. The Rosary will be Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held Monday, August 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Odessa. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral home in Odessa, Texas.
Felipe N, Davila was born in Ojinaga, Mexico to Felipe and Maria "Cuca" Davila on February 20, 1947. He attended Ector High School in Odessa. He married Frances Quintela Davila on June 19, 1970 in Odessa, Texas. He worked as a salesman for Whites Department Store and owned his own construction company. He was a veteran and served in the Army. He begins his music career at the age of 14 with Johnny White and Los Teenagers. He later begins his own group, Felipe Davila and Los Sensacionales.
Felipe Davila had been a longtime resident of Odessa, Texas and had long been respected as an outstanding and contributing musician to the community. As a youngster growing up in the "Southside" part of Odessa, he started with a band called the "Teenagers" during a time when it was difficult for Mexican-American youth to excel in any profession. He helped provide entertainment and enjoyment to many families during the Sixties, Seventies, etc. and through Today.
Felipe was a Sensational member to his family and his community. Felipe had never lost his love for his music and Odessa will continue to look up to him as a local musician who not only endured the test of time but shared his skills and talents as he sang the rhythm and sounds of the times.
Felipe Davila Y Sus Sensacionales had not only been part of our towns history and our culture, but he is, a Hispanic Folk Hero in the field of Music. BUENA SUERTE, NUESTRO FELIPE and continue singing with the inspirations and legacy that you have left us.
He is preceded by death by his parents, his younger sister, Dolores Avila and a daughter Rosemary.
Felipe is survived by his wife, Frances Davila, his sons Felipe Davila III and his wife Haydee, Abraim Davila, his daughters Margie Swenton and her husband Greg, Linda Voss and her husband Brian, Antoinette Aguirre and her husband Michael, his brothers Joe Davila, Ismael Davila, Danny Davila, Manuel Davila, his sisters Nati Davila, Toni Soto, Irene Brito, Millie Blochowicz, Minnie Davila, his 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Voss, Aaron Voss, Joe Davila Jr., Tino Rodriguez, Ismael Davila Jr., Emmanuel Davila Jr., Mike Soto, Mario Soto and Honorary Pallbearers, Elijah Voss, Felipe Davila IV, and Andres Aguirre.
The Davila family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Naidu, Dr. Dar, Dr. A, the VA hospital in Odessa and Big Spring, Odessa Regional Medical Center CCU staff, and Martinez Funeral Home. We would also like to thank everyone for the prayers and time spent thinking of us during this difficult time.
