Esperanza Lopez Spencer, age 90, of Marfa, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2026, in Odessa, Texas.
Esperanza was born in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico to Antonio Lopez and Felipa Alferez on September 07,1935.
Her family later moved to Mexico City where she was raised. She later married Ralph Spencer in El Paso, Texas. They eventually moved to Marfa Texas where they raised a family. Her greatest gift to her family was her love. For Esperanza her faith and family came first.
Along with her five children she started a successful home-based business, Desert Plant Co. in Marfa Texas. Her children’s lives were greatly influenced by this work.
Esperanza is preceded in death by her husband Ralph M Spencer and sister Leonarda Lopez Alferez and husband Estevan Davila Montoya.
Esperanza is survived by her son, Jesus (Chuy) Spencer and Rosa Milan , daughter Leonor (Lupita) Spencer, son Andrew (Andy) Spencer and Carmon Spencer, daughter Christina (Tina) Bickerstaff and son Ralph (Billy} Spencer. Grandchildren, Selina Gonzales, Juan Gonzales, Eddie Vanegas, Esperanza Vanegas and Leticia Vanegas, Sterling Spencer, Kaytlyn Spencer, Braiden Spencer-Herrera, Megan Bickerstaff, Brandon Bickerstaff, Camille Spencer. Great grandchildren, Aiyana Gonzales, Nathaniel Gonzales, Alex Gonzales, Alexis Duran, Braxton Bickerstaff, Berkley Bickerstaff, Jessie Ornelas and Cade Bickerstaff, and nieces Katalina Davila and grandnieces Monse Vargas Davila, Sara Vargas Davila.
Visitation has been set for Tuesday September 8, 2026, from 1pm-9pm with a rosary at 7pm at Martinez Funeral Home chapel.
Mass is set for 10 Am Wednesday September 9, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 2633 Conover Ave Odessa, TX 79763 with Father Mauricio Romero officiating.
Inurnment is set for 2pm Wednesday September 9, 2026, at the Heritage Mausoleum West located at Sunset Memorial Gardens 6801 E Business 20 Odessa, TX 79762 with Father Mauricio Romero officiating.
Flowers and memorial contributions may be sent to Martinez Funeral Home and Crematory in honor of Esperanza Spencer, or donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Odessa, Texas.
