Esperanza Castillo Davila, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3rd, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bastrop, Texas on March 18, 1934, she was the beloved daughter of the late Enrique and Adela Galvan Castillo.
Esperanza—known affectionately by her many grandchildren "Wella" or “Gram”—was a spirited and joyful soul with a quick wit and a big heart. Small in stature but mighty in personality, she loved to play checkers and dominoes (and she always won!). She had a playful love for gambling and never turned down a good bean burrito. But above all, she loved her family deeply, and being surrounded by them brought her the greatest joy.
She is survived by her children: son Frankie Davila and his wife Romelia of Denver City; daughters Lydia Marin, and Elaine Munoz and her husband Roy, both of Odessa. Her legacy lives on through her grandsons: Freddie Davila, Brandon Munoz, Lucas Munoz; granddaughters: Cindy Barron, Lori Garcia, and Jessica Montoya; her great-grandchildren: Jordan, Michael, Nicholas, Samantha, Alexandria, Avery, Charlee, Kayle, Jay, and Jax; and her great-great-grandchildren: Julian, Paris and Callan. She is also survived by her sister Connie Gomez of Devine, TX, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Davila; her parents; and her siblings: Tom Castillo, Tony Castillo, Ernest Castillo, Henry Castillo, Luz Gomez, Herminia Selvera, Senaida Pineda, and Delfina Castillo.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her neighbor, Norma Sambrano, for the kindness and care she consistently showed. Norma, your presence was a blessing to Mom—thank you for being an angel on earth.
Esperanza’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Pallbearers: Brandon Munoz, Jordan Bennett, Lucas Munoz, Michael Bennett, Nick Garcia, and Brian Fernandez
