Elvie lived a life filled with joy, kindness, laughter, service, faith, and love. She will be remembered for her strong laugh, stylish ways, and her unwavering devotion to family.

She spent her days watching Westerns, shopping, and styling her loved ones. She especially enjoyed taking long car rides with her grandchildren around the city and chatting with her sisters on Sundays. Elvie loved music and dancing and could always be found enjoying a good plate of fried catfish. She had a big appetite for spicy foods and sweets, and her perfect day was sitting on a cool porch, dipping her snuff, surrounded by loved ones, and watching over the neighborhood.

As a devoted homemaker and full-time nanny, Elvie cared for and helped raise her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who were blessed by her love and guidance. Family was the cornerstone of her life and remains her enduring legacy.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rubin Johnson and Willie McIntosh; daughters, Charlene Harrington and Joyce Harris; son, Alan Johnson; and grandchildren, Monica Burdett and Timothy Batie.

Elvie is survived by her daughters Glenda (Morrison) Enaibre, Darlene Johnson, and twin daughters Stacey Sherman and Audrey Johnson; her son Rubin Wayne; sisters Winnie Ruth Williams, Sally Outley, Emma Jean Ross, and Lorene Ross; seventeen (17) grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Though she is no longer with us, Elvie’s spirit will live on in the love shared, the memories made, and the many lives she touched.
