Earnest James Jackson

December 28, 1946 — September 25, 2023

Earnest James Jackson, 76, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on September 25, 2023, in Odessa, Texas. Mr. Jackson was born in Dallas, Texas to Enorse Jackson and Bennett Williams on December 28, 1946. He went to school in Groesbeck, Texas. Upon graduating, he valiantly served our country in the Army Reserves. Affectionately known as Doc, he established himself as an assiduous worker for the City Of Odessa and became a Route Supervisor in Solid Waste for several decades until retirement.

Although he was known as Doc at work, he was also referred to as Deacon at church and in the community. At Walker’s Chapel, now Living Vision, Deacon Jackson was faithful to his call, helping with the work of ministry for a litany of years. A strong, hardworking man, he influenced many men and women to change their lives for the glory of God. In his later years, his health began to decline but he would often ask to be rolled or pushed to church in his wheelchair. Mr. Jackson fought a good fight and finished his course. He was a good father and a faithful husband to his loving wife, Barbara Jackson, who took good care of him to the very end.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Enorse Jackson Jr., Bobbye (Cindy) Fowler, Shirley Jean Jackson, Billie Ray Jackson and Michael Jackson. He leaves to mourn three children, Ricky Renee Jackson, Earnest James Jackson, Jr. and Lorraine Jackson along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers: Ricky Jackson, Sr., Charles Jackson, Ricky Jackson, Jr., Amir Jackson, Malyke Jackson and Eugene Price.

Honorary Pallbearers: Ralph Gadison, Kale Dobbins, and John Crosby.
