Billie Harris AKA “The Goat” The Greatest Indigenous, 76 of Odessa, Texas passed away October 10, 2023 in Dallas, Texas.

Billie Harris was born December 28, 1946 in Moody, Texas to Eddy Lorene Harris and Tom Harris. He went to Blackshear in Odessa, Texas. He married his first wife Margaret Ann Harris on December 20, 1966. And later married his present wife Mary Ann Harris on July 23, 2010. He graduated from Blackshear High School. He attended Odessa College for 2 years. He worked at Gulf Oil Company, then went to Shell Oil company for 35 years. Billy also worked at Lea Regional Hospital then, moved to Midland, Texas and worked for Midland Lee High School until he retired.

Billie became a member at St. John’s Baptist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico, Greater Ideal Baptist Church, Choose Life Church and recently joined Christian Faith Center. He served in the Prison Ministry. A Great Man of God. A Leader.

Billy was an outstanding athlete. Billy played basketball, football, baseball, and track. He was also in the Blackshear Choir. He did it all. He accomplished everything he put his hand to.

He received a four-year letterman in Football, Best Athlete, Medals, Trophies and won Championships in Track. He also received a Scholarship to UTEP University of Texas in El Paso, Texas and New Mexico State.

Billie is preceded in death by his late wife Margaret Ann Harris, Mother Eddy Lorene Harris, Father Tom Harris Sr., Brothers Bobby Harris, Twin Larry Byrant, James Harris, Tom Harris Jr., Herman Bryant, Sister Lavern Harris, daughter Christy M. Byrd.

Billie is survived by Sons Chris Lamente Harris Sr. (Francis Harris), Billy Harris Jr., and Dexter Payne, Daughter Angela Benavidez and Son In Law Gabriel Benavidez. Grandchildren Chris Harris Jr., Quentin Byrd, Skyler Harris, Ashley Harris, Brandy Harris, Alisha Harris, Daryan Benavidez, Chance Benavidez and Savannah Benavidez, Brothers Charles Hunter, Sisters; Brenda Bryant, Lucille Bryant, Laura Johnson and Saundra Williams, Cousins Odell Mason, Earl Templeton, KT Templeton, Marie Templeton, Uncle Frank Templeton and friends.

Pallbearers Willie Lawrence Ellis, Josh Abalos, Skylar Harris, Lavorick Williams, Derrick Taylor, Dwight Randolph Jr., Clint Thomas, Hunter Hawkins.

Honorary Pallbearer; Charles Hunter, Jerry Hendrix, Robert Hendrix, Odell Mason, Dwight Randolph Sr.

Memorials Devita Dialysis Center, Midland Memorial Hospital, Baylor Hospital in Dallas Texas and Faith Presbyterian Hospice. Gabriel and Donna from Devita Dialysis Center. Thanks to all of the Class of 1966 from Blackshear High School, Family and friends, close friend and classmate Ross Williams.  

Visitation is set for Wednesday October 18, 2023 from 1:00PM – 9:00PM at Martinez Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM Thursday October 19, 2023 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Willis Officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery ~ Los Angels Section.
