Benjamin Espino Ortiz, 76, of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Benjamin was born on March 26, 1950, in San Felipe, Durango, Mexico, to Matias and Amparo Ortiz.

Benjamin was a hardworking man with a stubborn spirit and a strong will. While he could be hard-headed at times, those who knew him best also knew his playful side. He loved joking with others, making people laugh, and never met a stranger. His warm personality allowed him to make friends wherever life took him.

A true cowboy at heart, Benjamin cherished the ranch life and was rarely seen without his cowboy boots and hat. He had a great love for food and enjoyed just about every dish placed before him, though mole remained one of his all-time favorites. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pool, watching horse racing, and watching baseball. His love for the sport was so strong that he encouraged his sons to play baseball as they grew up.

Above all else, Benjamin's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted father who loved his children unconditionally and would do anything to provide for and support them. His love, strength, and sense of humor will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Jose Ortiz and Jesus Ortiz; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, Matias Ortiz and Amparo Espino.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Martinez Funeral Home.

Benjamin's memory will live on through the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the countless lives he touched with his laughter, generosity, and unwavering love.

Benjamin nació el 26 de marzo de 1950 en San Felipe, Durango, México, hijo de Matías y Amparo Ortiz.

Benjamin era un hombre trabajador con un espíritu terco y una fuerte voluntad. Aunque a veces podía ser terco, quienes mejor lo conocían también conocían su lado juguetón. Le encantaba bromear con otros, hacer reír a la gente y nunca conocía a un desconocido. Su personalidad cálida le permitía hacer amigos dondequiera que la vida lo llevara.

Un verdadero vaquero de corazón, Benjamin apreciaba la vida en el rancho y rara vez se le veía sin sus botas y sombrero de vaquero. Tenía un gran amor por la comida y disfrutaba casi todos los platillos que le ofrecían, aunque el lunar seguía siendo uno de sus favoritos de todos los tiempos. En su tiempo libre, disfrutaba jugar billar, ver carreras de caballos y ver béisbol. Su amor por el deporte era tan fuerte que animó a sus hijos a jugar béisbol mientras crecían.

Por encima de todo, la mayor alegría de Benjamin era su familia. Fue un padre dedicado que amó a sus hijos incondicionalmente y haría cualquier cosa para proveer y apoyarlos. Su amor, fortaleza y sentido del humor permanecerán para siempre en el corazón de quienes lo conocieron y amaron.

Le sobreviven sus hijos, José Ortiz y Jesús Ortiz; siete nietos; y un bisnieto.

Benjamin fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres, Matías Ortiz y Amparo Espino.

La visita se llevará a cabo el viernes 14 de agosto de 2026, de 10:00 a.m. a 9:00 p.m. en Martinez Funeral Home. El servicio funerario se llevará a cabo el sábado 15 de agosto de 2026 a las 9:30 a.m. en Martinez Funeral Home.
