Alicia Tavarez, 90, of Odessa, passed away on June 29, 2026, at Medical Center Hospital.

She was born January 18, 1936, in Presidio, Texas to Arcadio and Albina Ornelas. She married Ismael Tavarez on November 14, 1954, in Presidio, Texas. She worked as a teacher’s aide for more than 25 years at St. John’s Episcopal School.

Alicia is preceded in death by her husband, Ismael Tavarez; son-in-law, Frank Mijares; parents, Arcadio and Albina Ornelas; brothers Arcadio Ornelas Jr., Eduardo Ornelas, and Pilar Ornelas.

Alicia is survived by her children Amelia Moreno (Alfonso), Jaime Tavarez (Rosanne), Ismael Tavarez Jr. (Elizabeth), Angie Mijares (Frank+), and David Tavarez (Melissa); sisters Socorro Estrada, Maria Rivas, Carolina Garcia, and Teresa Leija; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alfonso A. Moreno, Adrian A. Moreno, Frank Mijares Jr., Esteban Mijares, John Tavarez, Anthony Dominguez Jr., and honorary pallbearer Austin Tavarez.

The family of Alicia wishes to extend our sincere thanks to cardiologist Dr. Fernando Boccalandro.

Visitation will be from 1:00 - 9:00 p.m., and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Martinez Funeral Home (Dixie).

Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joseph Uecker officiating.

Cremation and private memorial will be at a later date.
