ETTA C. JONES WHITE

Etta C. Jones was born the 8th child to Edd and Georgia Jones in Overton, TX, May 11, 1925. She was a member of  Antioch Baptist Church in Tatum, TX. She attended public school and graduated high school in Rusk County Independent School District.

She worked at Cleaver Clinic-Hospital in Henderson, TX as a Licensed Practical nurse until she met the love of her life George White. They united in holy matrimony, October 3, 1949. They moved to Odessa, TX in 1952. To this union 4 children were born: Ricky, Shawneequa, Michael and Jonell. She became a member of  the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church under the pastorage of  Reverend A. H. Goins and later under the leadership of Reverend J. W. Hanson. She was a member of the senior choir, women’s mission and deaconess. She remained a faithful and dedicated member until her health began to fail. She went to live with her daughter Shawneequa and her husband Eddie in Lubbock, TX for 8 years until her passing.

Etta C. and her husband were owners and operators of the Odessa Southside Laundromat and Southside Apartments for more than 35 years. In 2010 she received the Business Hall of Fame award presented to her by the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin.

Etta C. is preceded in death by her parents, Edd and Georgia Jones; husband, George White; son, Reverend Ricky White; siblings, Anna Drawhorn, Lavonia Ephram, Yvonne Smith, Lonnie Jones, Lafayette Jones, John T. Jones, LaMarcus Jones, Odessa Jones, Annie Mae Jones and Jesse Jones.

She is survived by daughters, Shawneequa Love (Eddie) of Lubbock, TX and Jonell Johnson of Houston, TX; son, Michael White (Pam) of Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Janice White of Odessa, TX; 9 grandchildren, Marcel, Khristee, Andrea, Alisha, Kandyce, Christopher, Nathan, Jayirus and Jason; 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; her faithful and loving friend Patsy Hanson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
